There were several areas in the old house where the floors squeaked. To avoid this, our framer suggested putting the joists closer together than typically recommended and using 1-1/8″, tongue-and-groove plywood for the subfloor, instead of the more commonly used 1/2″ or 3/4″ plywood. The plywood sheets are glued to the joists and then nailed down. Below is a picture of a stack of the plywood sheets, showing the tongue-and-groove sides.
